We are now screening for an anticipated August 2024 start!
What is it?
A 6 week peer support group for Black, Indigenous, and other people of color in social justice movement spaces (social workers, activists, organizers, advocates, educators, and healers). This group will be shaped around the shared reading of the book “My Grandmother’s Hands.” We recognize that as BIPOC we are experiencing vicarious trauma from systemic based work that creates burnout and dissociation in already dysregulated bodies. The group will offer a space for discussion and practice of the exercises in the book (and/or others) for the purpose of healing, connecting, and recommitting to liberation in sustainable ways. Through group co-regulation we will create a vehicle for self-regulation and a model for broader community relationality. By healing ourselves, we make space for the healing of others.

What is the time commitment?
Our first cohort will meet biweekly, for one hour. We will choose an evening that benefits the majority of our peers. We are considering Wednesday evenings. We will plan for the group to include at least 8 people to keep the cost as low as possible while compensating the labor of our therapists.
What is the cost?
As therapists of color we acknowledge that the very conditions under which we labor are oppressive and that we need each other to survive and thrive. While access to mental health services can be cost prohibitive, even to those of us in the field, we can create collective spaces to share our gifts and reduce the financial barriers that keep us from committing to our health. The cost of each session will be $30 and we will work on fundraising for potential scholarships or partial scholarships, though we cannot guarantee them. We encourage our allies to support our work financially or through sharing the opportunity. Clients who are able to pay more can also offset the cost for others. Payment will be due when service is rendered. Payment methods TBD.
Where?
Our therapy office at the Trauma Healing Collective.
When?
We project starting in August depending on recruitment for the group.
Who?
The therapists who will co-facilitate the group will be Ashley Childs, RMHCI and Eva Fiallos-Diaz, LCSW members of the Trauma Healing Collective.
